28. Obedience helps you overcome doubts (Gen 17:15-27)

Though the promise of the birth of Isaac through Sarah was hard to believe, Abraham did circumcision on all males in his house on the very same day God had told. This is faith. Overcome doubts with obedience.

Questions for Observations

As Abram doubted God’s promise of descendants, He gave new names to them. Abram will be called (              ), meaning the father of nations. Sarai will be called (             ) meaning (                ) of nations. (v5, v15-16)

What was Abraham’s response to God’s promise of childbirth of Sarah? (v17-18)

The Lord once again confirmed that Sarah would have a son named (             ) and that He would establish his (          ) with the son.

Abraham and all males in his house were circumcised just as (           ) had told him. They all did on (                ) day. (v23, 26)

ANSWERS & Meditation

Abraham, Sarah, the mother.

When they called each other by these new names, they more remembered the Lord's promise.

Treat each other as brothers and sisters in the Lord, children of God. We will remember more of God's promise and blessing.

He laughed at God's promise. "O that Ishmael might live before you"

As our faith shakes, we would become cynical about God's promise of making us His ambassadors.

Our expectation from God goes down. Vision disappears.

Isaac, covenant

the Lord, the very same.

The Bible emphasizes that Abraham circumcised all males in one day. It was not a smart idea for the security issues of the whole household in the ancient days. Furthermore, God didn't ask for circumcision in one day. But, Abraham's willingness to confirm the promise made him circumcise all as soon as possible.

When doubt shakes your faith, devote your life more to obedience. Don't miss the church. Keep reading Bible and praying. Obeying His words. This is your faith.

A living faith goes to obedience against the wave of doubt, like a live salmon going up the waterway.
