31. Corruption of All & Selfish Lot (Gen 19:1-14)

The angels visited Sodom and were hosted by Lot. In the night, they experienced how sinful the whole city was.

Please Read Gen 19:1-14

After they ate the dinner and before they could lie down, (          ) the men – both (                  ) and (             ), from (                  ) part of the city of Sodom – came and asked for the two men.

What was Lot’s proposal to the riot?

“The (              ) against this place is so great before (                   ) that He has sent us to destroy it”

What was Lot’s sons-in-law’s response? (v14)

Answers & Meditation

Lot also invited the visitors to his house as Abraham did in chapter 18. They had willingly accepted Abraham’s invitation, but, here, they reluctantly accepted Lot’s invitation as he urged them.

All, young, old, every

The Bible emphasizes the total corruption of the city. There was no hope of repentance because there was no one who could start.

He tried to hand over his daughters for the sake of the visitors.

Lot knew what they were trying to do was evil (7). But, he tried to prevent evil with another evil.

In those days, it was the duty of the host to protect his guests. In verse 8, “they have come under the protection of my roof.”

He put his honor before his family. This is a selfish thought, not of faith.

“This man came to live here as a foreigner, and now he dares to judge us! We’ll do more harm to you than to them!” (verse 9)

Their overreaction reflected how Lot had been doing among them. Lot had challenged them to live godly, but he himself had not lived godly, lived a self-centered life.

Teaching without loving and sacrificing is criticizing. Our selfishness would make us live as Pharisees.

Jesus said, ‘no death of the seed, no fruit’ (John 12:24)

Outcry, the Lord

The outcry of the oppressed by the crimes of Sodom, finally, moved God’s throne to destroy the city.

They thought he was joking (ridiculing them).

This would be a response of this world when they hear the gospel.

They don’t accept the title referring to this world, ‘the City of Destruction,' as in the Pilgrim’s Progress.

Aren’t you the one who laughs at the title of this world?
