33. Shameful Ending of Indecisive Lot (Gen 19:30-38)

Lot was saved from the destruction but left descendants through his daughters. Since he chose to stay out of Abraham’s house, his descendants have become aliens to God’s promise.

Zoar, a cave

Here again, we see Lot’s lack of faith in God. God would not destroy Zoar because He had allowed Lot to escape there and spared the town from destruction.

Drunk, father, unaware

The Bible emphasizes that Lot didn’t know his daughters’ plan (verses 33, 35).

Lot’s indecisiveness made him stay in Sodom after being rescued from captivity in chapter 14. Even after he had experienced the Lord’s amazing salvation for the sake of Abraham, he didn’t return to Abraham.

Now, his indecisiveness before the Lord made him spiritually blind. He was not aware of this shameful plan.

Lot was righteous but not enough so to influence his family. He was like a seed sown in the thorny field, in the Parable of the Sower.

What about you?

Lot knew the promise of God given to Abraham.

He had experienced God's grace many times through Abraham.

He had seen God's power.

But he lacked one thing, the resolute heart for God. He had had several occasions to return to Abraham in chapters 14 & 19. But, he didn't return to the house of the covenant. Thus, he faded out from the story of salvation.
