57. Jacob saw God's grace from Esau's face (Gen 33:1-20)

 Though Jacob had approached Esau with an anxious heart, Esau greeted him with a welcoming heart.

 Jacob divided his wives and children into (                ) groups and approached Esau in a very cautious manner. But Esau (         ) to meet him, embraced him, and (             ) him. Jacob’s favoritism will cause quarrels in his family.

Though the Lord blessed Jacob by changing his name in chapter 32, Jacob couldn’t fully trust in God’s protection, and he was full of fear.

Jacob wasn’t this much happy when he saw God’s face at Peniel. Jacob was delighted as if he had seen the face of God after meeting Esau.

Was Jacob generous to give such a big gift to Esau? Jacob still relies on the power of bribes to ensure that his brother would not become hostile later.

 

Safely, Canaan, Shechem.

He had promised to worship the Lord at Bethel (Gen 28:21-22), but he didn’t do it.

Jacob relied on human methods and did not seek the Lord after his safe return. The Lord is going to discipline him in the following chapters.
