09. God sent Moses and Aaron (Ex 6:13-28)

Moses complained, ‘They didn’t listen to me.’ God said, ‘I have spoken to you and sent you. Trust me, not today’s outcome.’

The LORD gave Moses and Aaron (              ) for the Israelites and Pharaoh to bring them out of Egypt.

Who were the three sons of Levi?

They heard about God’s promise of Canaan from their fathers. They waited for a leader who could deliver them. God finally chose Moses and sent him for them.

Because the LORD (YHWH) sent Moses and Aaron, He will surely deliver His people through Moses and Aaron.

The same, the men, the same

Why are Kohat and Amram here? Why is Moses' genealogy written here? The phrases before and after the genealogy are the same (6:10-12, 6:28-30) are the same. It was the Lord who sent Moses, not Moses himself. Moses was reluctant to go. Moses' genealogy tells us that Moses hasn't come out of nowhere, but the Lord chose him to accomplish God's promise to their forefathers.

Verses 1-12 say they will be delivered because of the Lord. His name YHWH implies His attribute of faithfulness to keep His promise.

Here, verses 14-28 show that the Lord chose a man to accomplish His promise. And this man Moses was not someone of special background but one of their brothers, the descendants of Levi, the same Moses, the son of Amram. There were probably people questioning his identity because of his growing background as the son of a princess. God chose an ordinary person to accomplish His amazing works.

This could be an implicit answer to the question, ‘who made you a ruler and a judge over us?’ (Ex 2:14) The answer is ‘God did so.’

Whenever a person is called for God’s work, the Bible introduces his or her genealogy. In the ancient days, genealogy clarifies one’s identity.

The vine tree analogy so vividly illustrates our relationship with Jesus. As the branches of a vine share the life of the vine, we share and live from Jesus’ life. πŸ‘‰ Read John 15:1 - 17 Q1.
