01. Blessing During Bondage (Ex 1:1-22)

Jacob’s family went down to Egypt and became a great nation. But Pharaoh acted against the Israelites.

πŸ‘‰ Read Exodus 1:1-22

Jacob’s family was (                ) in total who came down to Egypt. But, they increased greatly, so that (                    ) was filled with them.

Even though the king of Egypt tried to diminish them, they multiplied and spread more. How is this possible? (Hint: 12, 17, 20-21)

This is the midwives’ faith. They feared (               ) more than (               ).

What was the final method of Pharaoh?

Seventy, the land

Verse 7 emphasizes that they increased greatly. This is a fulfillment of Gen 1:28, “fill the earth.”

Deuteronomy 10:22 says, “When your ancestors went down to Egypt, they numbered only seventy, but now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky.”

God did that. He is greater than Pharaoh.

The Bible didn’t say explicitly that God made them fruitful. But, verses 12, 17, and 20 allude to that.

They said, “Come, let’s deal wisely” (verse 10). Though they did their best to oppress and detain the Israelites, God delivered His people from their slavery.

God, Pharaoh

The Hebrew midwives knew that the Pharaoh’s order was against God’s will and didn’t listen to Pharaoh.

When they feared the Lord and followed Him, rather than Pharaoh, God protected their lives from Pharaoh and blessed them. And this gave an example to the Israelites of how to survive under Egyptian oppression. Fear the Lord, who will decide our eternal destiny, not the world, that threatens us with the things of the flesh.

“All sons that were born you must throw into the river.”

As Pharaoh tried to kill the sons of the Israelites, God would kill the sons of the Egyptians.

God protects His people with His invisible but strong hand amid suffering. Now, when their lives were threatened, He started preparing a deliverer.
