10. The Reason of Plagues (Ex 6:28-7:13)

Moses complains, ‘Pharaoh won’t listen.’ The Lord explains how He would make Pharaoh release the Israelites.

πŸ‘‰ Read Exodus 6:28-7:13

Why does Moses think Pharaoh would not listen to him? (6:30)

God will (           ) Pharaoh’s heart so that He would perform many wonders. Thus they will (            ) who the Lord is.

What miracle did Aaron perform to confirm God had sent them?

Why did Pharaoh not listen to Moses even though he was miracles that Aaron performed? (v3-4, v8-13)

Answers and Meditation

‘I speak with difficulty.”

Moses focuses on the human ability to do God’s work. This led to unbelief.

The Lord let Aaron speak on behalf of Moses. Though Aaron is to speak to Pharaoh, God let Aaron hear God’s message through Moses. Once God has chosen you, He won’t abandon you even though you are found to lack ability. Instead, He helps you to complete the task by adding your assistant.

Harden, know

Pharaoh’s refusal resulted in the Egyptian knowing who the Lord was. Remember what Pharaoh had said in 5:2, “who is the Lord?”

Pharaoh is not listening because Moses' mouth is dull, but because God has hardened Pharaoh's heart. Remember that when things don't go according to plan, there may be other wills of God, not because of our lack of ability.

It is because God hardened his heart.

Because the magicians performed the same miracles, the miracles of Moses were not necessarily God's power in Pharaoh's viewpoint.

As the Lord predicted.

The Lord was able to deliver the Israelites by force, but He didn’t do that. Instead, He used his power to make Pharaoh and the Egyptians kneel before the Lord and obey His command, ‘let my people go.’

The Lord's goal is not merely exodus but glorification of His name through how He delivers His people.
