36. The Lord Ratifies the Covenant (Ex 24:1-18)

After explaining the covenantal terms, the Lord and the Israelites ratified the covenant.

πŸ‘‰ Read Exodus 24:1-18

(              ) delivered the Lord’s words to all people. They said, “We are (               ) to do all the words of the Lord.” Moses sent young men to offer (                   ) and (                   ). Moses splashed half of the blood on (            ).

Moses, willing, burnt offering, peace offering, the altar

After Moses read (                             ), they said, “We are (            ) to do obey all that the Lord has spoken.” Then, Moses splashed the rest half of the blood on (              ) and said, “This is the blood of the (                  ).” Even though they saw God, He did not (              ) on them.

the Book of Covenant, willing, the people, covenant, lay a hand

Blood was sprinkled on the two parties of the covenant: God and the Israelites. The altar represents God.

Because they pledged to keep the covenant terms by the blood, they will have no excuse when God’s wrath comes upon their idolatry with the golden calf in chapter 32.

They agreed to obey the Lord’s words (twice). They vowed to serve God only, but soon after, they didn’t wait for Moses and made the golden calf and worshipped it.

The Lord didn’t kill them even though they saw the Lord. This shows their righteousness before God. God accepted them not because they were sinless but because of their willing heart to obey the Lord.

As the Lord called Moses up the mountain, Moses told the elders, “(            ) for us until we return.” On the (            ) day, the Lord called to Moses within the cloud. The Lord’s glory was like (                   ) on the mountaintop. Moses was on the mountain (          ) days and (           ) nights.

Wait, seventh, devouring fire, forty, forty

The Lord’s glory was like devouring fire, the clear sapphire-like pavement on His feet. They didn’t see God Himself but God’s glory

There is little warning of curse or death in the laws and statutes in chapters 21-23. However, the incident of the golden calf made the Lord add a section of the warning for disobedience in the later sets of the law, as in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28.

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matt 26:27-28)
