The Hebrew word for leprosy is Χ¦ָΧ¨ַΧ’ַΧͺ (zza-ra-ath). Many English versions translate this as leprosy. In NET Bible, it is translated to 'a diseased infection' reflecting that, at the time of OT, the term 'leprosy' had been used to refer to various skin diseases in a broader sense than what is known as Hansen's disease (the modern medical term for leprosy).
This chapter tells how to diagnose leprous disease. These three symptoms were common for various skin diseases for the priest to declare the person leprous.

Not all skin symptoms of abnormalities are unclean. The unhygienic or contagious diseases were considered unclean.
They were not cut off from God’s people because of their
uncleanness. They were only banned from participating in the sacrifice and the
fellowship until they were clean.
