Answers and Meditation

Aaron (priests), needs, meeting

The Levites were given to Aaron and his sons to support their ministry.

At the end of chapters 1 and 2, the Bible keeps saying that the Levites were not numbered in Israel.

They were chosen

Not because Aaron and his sons were more pious or righteous than others but because the Lord chose them to be His ministers.

This special calling is called the 'priesthood.' Aaron and his sons were to maintain this priesthood until the High Priest Christ came. The Levites were to support this task and worked as the guards of the Tabernacle and the priesthood from the presumptuous approach of common people. (10)

firstborn, mine

When Israel came out from Egypt, all firstborns of Egypt were killed. But, all Israelite firstborns were saved from destruction. Thus, the Lord says, ‘all firstborn are mine.’

We are the Lord’s possession because we were saved from death. We are to serve our new master, for we have been released from the slavery of sin, just as the Israelites were to serve the Lord because they were delivered from the land of slavery.
