05: The allotment on the Eastern side & Moses’ refusal (Deut 3:12 – 29)

Two and a half tribes received the land under a certain requirement. Moses encouraged the Israelites for the Canaanite conquest.

πŸ‘‰ Read Deuteronomy 3:12 - 29

What tribes got their inheritance in the east of Jordan?

“You have seen everything the Lord did to these (         ) kings; He will do the same to all the kingdoms where (               ). Do not be afraid of them, for the Lord (        ) God will (           ) fight for you.”

When Moese asked God to enter Canaan, what was God’s response? The exact reason why Moses failed to enter the land was in Numbers 20:12.

Reubenites, Gadites, half of Manassehites

According to their proposal, Moses requested them to participate in the battle of Canaanite conquest for their fellow Israelites.

What if they don't fight as they said? They will still live on the land they have acquired. But the land wouldn’t be called God’s inheritance. They would enjoy the harvest from the land but not God's promised blessing.

Two, you are going, your, personally

This was the message they learned from the conquest of the two kingdoms.

Once God has shown you His power and faithfulness, it is your turn to show your trust in Him and move forward as He leads you.

Moses didn’t show God’s holiness before the Israelites.

Moses burst his anger at Meribah, which might have caused the Israelites to misunderstand God that He would not willingly provide water for rebellious people. God is holy, not like humans.

Moses misunderstood that God's provision was contingent on human behaviors. He thought his denial of Canaan was from God's anger, and God wouldn't want to give water to the complaining congregation.

But Canaan was given to them by grace. Moses didn't understand this. In a broad sense, Moses seemed not fitting to be the leader of salvation through God's grace because he was the mediator of the Law. Moses was refused not because of God's anger, but because his role was up to that point in God's plan. Joshua, the leader of faith, will lead them to the land.
