Why does the Lord specify the borders of the land? Now, the Canaanite inhabitants live; thus, it is more reasonable to conquer a small piece of land for now, and then, as the nation gets stronger, they could conquer as much as they want. The land was not only to provide a place of habitance nor a place of freedom, for they had suffered in Egypt.

Here is another question. If they needed to conquer it, who could it be God's gift?

The mission given to them was to live as God's people in that land, experiencing His power and glory. Thus, they needed to reveal God to the world. To achieve this, the boundaries of the land were made clear, and they were to manifest the kingdom of God there.

The blessing was not just a possession of the land or its produce. Living in God's presence would lead them to a deeper knowledge of and intimacy with God. The ultimate gift was the presence of God and God Himself.

What is our Canaan? We are called to proclaim the gospel and His kingdom. Many challenges and adversaries exist, but we will triumph with the Lord.

When you devote yourself to the calling of the Lord, His Spirit will be with you; you will have the Lord Himself. What is His calling for you?

In the New Testament, the boundary of God's kingdom expands to the ends of the earth. Matthew 28:16-20, Acts 1:8.
