40: The Song of Moses – 1 (Deut 32:1 – 25)

Chapter 32 is the song that Moses taught the Israelites to recite through the generations. This song will make them remember the warning of God of today.

πŸ‘‰ Read Deuteronomy 32:1 - 25

In this song, what is God likened to? (4, 15, 18, 30)

The Rock.

Moses states the uprightness of the words of God (1 – 4) and the deceitfulness of His people (5 – 7).

Though the heavens and the earth acknowledge the greatness of God, His people are foolish and not faithful to their Creator.

(8 – 14) Here is what the Lord has done for them: While the Most High gave all the other nations their inheritance, Jacob (Israel) became His special possession (     ~      ). The Lord protected and guided them (      ~       ).  The Lord blessed them in wonders and abundance (    ~    ).

8-9, 10-12, 13-14

The heavenly assembly represents angels. In their ancient myth, God made angels rule over the universe. Though the Most High put other nations under the control of angels, Israel was chosen as His special treasure. See the expressions of how the Lord dearly treated Israel: ‘like the pupil of his eye, ‘like an eagle that hovers over its young.’

‘Honey from the cliffs’ and ‘olive oil from the hardest rocks’ show the Lord’s wonderous provision.

(15 – 18) However, the Israelites sinned against God. As Jesurun (Israel) got (                    ), he deserted his God and treated the Rock who saved him with (             ). They even put out of (          ) the God who gave them birth.

(15 – 18) However, the Israelites sinned against God. As Jesurun (Israel) got ( fat, thick, and stuffed  ), he deserted his God and treated the Rock who saved him with (contempt ). They even put out of (  mind ) the God who gave them birth.

See how they fall away from the Lord. Eventually, they won't care about God at all.

(19 – 25) This is the Lord’s judgment on them. “I will (        ) them. Because they made me (           ) with false gods, I will make them (           ) with a nation slow to learn. A fire from my (         ) will devour them with various disasters. I will afflict them.

(19 – 25) This is the Lord’s judgment on them. “I will ( reject ) them. Because they made me (  jealous ) with false gods, I will make them (  jealous  ) with a nation slow to learn. A fire from my (  anger ) will devour them with various disasters. I will afflict them.

"I will reject them." The literal translation is 'I will hide my face from them.'

A nation slow to learn could be a gentile nation that doesn’t know the law of God. God will call a gentile nation his people, and this makes Israel jealous. “I tell you, many will come from the east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt 8:11-12)

Verses 24-25 show that the troubles will come from everywhere and to everyone. God will be furious!.
