41: The Song of Moses – 2 (Deut 32:26 – 52)

The later part of the song tells how the Lord will restore His people. The uniqueness of His ways makes us focus more on His words, for He doesn't work as we humans think.

πŸ‘‰ Read Deuteronomy 32:26 - 52

(26 – 34) Though the Lord had desired to eliminate Israel, He changed His mind. Otherwise, the nations will say, “(             ) is great, and (          ) has not done all this.” In fact, the (           ) of Israel handed His people over to them. Venomous afflictions were not from their gods as they thought (32 – 33) but from the plan of (            ) (34).

(26 – 34) Though the Lord had desired to eliminate Israel, He changed His mind. Otherwise, the nations will say, “( Our power ) is great, and ( the Lord ) has not done all this.” In fact, the ( Rock ) of Israel handed His people over to them. Venomous afflictions were not from their gods as they thought (32 – 33) but from the plan of ( the Lord ) (34).

(35 – 38) When the Lord’s time comes, He will judge them, vindicate His people, and show the uselessness of the idols. When is the Lord’s time? (two, 35, 36)

At the time their foot slips

When He sees there is no hope left for his servants

(39 – 43) This passage explains the uniqueness of our God. Find the expressions that support the following character of God.

Sovereign and almighty :

Fire of jealousy:

For His people:

  • Sovereign and almighty: ‘I kill and give life, I smash and I heal,’
  • Fire of jealousy: ‘repay those who hate me!’ ‘blood’ ‘devour flesh’

Note that the Lord doesn't say He would judge those who did evil but those who hated the Lord. These show God’s anger against His foes.

  • For His people: ‘avenge his servants’ blood’ ‘make atonement for his land and people’

'atonement': The Lord will sacrifice for His people.

Such character of God compels us to obey Him.

The law of God is no idle word for you. It is (               )!

Your life.

What is the reason that Moses was not allowed to enter the land of Canaan? (50-52)

He rebelled against the Lord by not showing Him proper respect among the Israelites.

Moses’ denial to the land was recorded in Deut 3:23-29. The Lord confirms it here to remind them of the seriousness of disobedience. The life in God’s words contrasts with the death and failure of Moses.
