16: If anyone wants to do God’s will, He will know my teaching (John 7:1 – 24)

While the people in Galilee refused Jesus’ teaching for they sought earthly blessings, the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem refused Jesus’ teaching for a different reason.

πŸ‘‰ Read John 7:1 - 24

Q1. Jesus replied, “My (         ) has not yet arrived, but you are ready at any opportunity. The world cannot hate you, but (           ), because I am testifying that its deeds are (         ).” Though Jesus had said wouldn’t go up to this feast, he went up in (          ) because the Jewish leaders wanted to (        ) him.

Jesus replied, “My ( time ) has not yet arrived, but you are ready at any opportunity. The world cannot hate you, but (  me  ), because I am testifying that its deeds are ( evil  ).” Though Jesus had said wouldn’t go up to this feast, he went up in (  secret  ) because the Jewish leaders wanted to ( kill  ) him.

‘My time has not yet fully arrived.’ Though they hated Jesus and wanted to kill him, it was not yet the time of Jesus’ crucifixion. Jesus was supposed to be crucified at the Passover, not the Feast of Shelters.

Meanwhile, they were ok anytime to go up to Jerusalem because the world didn’t hate them.

Q2. These are Jesus’ arguments that Jesus speaks truth. If they had wanted to do (           ), they would have known Jesus’ teaching was from (          ). Then, they will realize Jesus desires the (          ) of the one who sent him. Thus, he is a man of (           ), and there is no (              ) in him. Thus, he speaks (         ).

These are Jesus’ arguments that Jesus speaks truth. If they had wanted to do ( God’s will ), they would have known Jesus’ teaching was from ( God ). Then, they will realize Jesus desires the ( honor ) of the one who sent him. Thus, he is a man of ( integrity ), and there is no ( unrighteousness ) in him. Thus, he speaks ( truth  ).

If they had kept the law, they would have known that Jesus’ teaching was from God.

'A man of integrity': He sought the honor of the sender and only spoke on his behalf. It is the proper attitude of the one who is sent.

Q3. For their accusation that Jesus broke the Sabbath law by healing the paralytic on the Sabbath, in chapter 5, Jesus said, ‘If a male child is (                ) on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses is not broken, why can I not make a man (                      ) on the Sabbath? Do not judge according to external appearance, but judge with (               ) judgment.

For their accusation that Jesus broke the Sabbath law by healing the paralytic on the Sabbath, in chapter 5, Jesus said, ‘If a male child is (  circumcised  ) on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses is not broken, why can I not make a man (  completely well  ) on the Sabbath? Do not judge according to external appearance, but judge with (  proper   ) judgment.

The circumcision implied ‘ritual completeness’ of the body. Thus, the healing of the physical body also should be allowed on the Sabbath.

“judge with proper judgment”: we should understand the meaning and the spirit behind the law. We’d better not criticize anyone merely looking at what is seen.

Q4. Hatred is a mark of not seeking God’s will. Find verses that tell their hatred toward Jesus.

1, 7, 19, 20

If you obey God’s will, you will understand better of Jesus’ teachings.
