23: For judgment I have come: the blind may see, and the seer may become blind. (John 9:18 – 41)

Though the blind man recognized the Messiah, the religious leaders failed. This is the judgment that Jesus has come for.

πŸ‘‰ Read John 9:18 - 41

Q1. Why did his parents reply to the religious leaders, ‘Ask him, He will speak for himself’?

They were afraid of the Jewish leaders and to be kicked out of the community.

Q2. Why did the religious leaders ask his parents if he was born blind? Why did they ask him again how he got healed?

They didn’t want to acknowledge Jesus was from God.

They had already concluded Jesus was a sinner and tried to deny the facts that fairly asserted Jesus was the Messiah.

Q3. What caused them to be blind to recognize Jesus? (28)

They were so obsessed with being Moses’ disciples.

Their religious pride, privilege, and obsession with the literal statutes of the law blinded their eyes to recognize the Incarnated Word. ‘Healing of the born blind’ has never been heard (32). Thus, it shows God’s new work. However, they weren’t open to God’s new revelation through the Messiah, who is greater than Moses.

Q4. “For (          ) I have come into his world, so that those who do (         ) see may gain their sight, and the ones who see may become (         ).”

“For ( judgment ) I have come into his world, so that those who do ( not ) see may gain their sight, and the ones who see may become ( blind ).”

This is also the work of God, as in verse 3. The light shines in the world and reveals what is hidden in people’s hearts (Luke 2:35). What they have in their hearts decides how they respond to Jesus Christ. That’s why it is called a judgment. “The who does not believe has been judged already.” (John 3:18)

Don’t claim you see and know God. Come to Jesus and get healed of your born blindness. He is the Light.
