18: The Challenge of Faith Beyond Expectations (Luke 8:22 – 56)

In the calming of the storm, the casting out of the legion of evil spirits, and the raising of Jairus’s daughter, Jesus repeatedly challenged His disciples and the people to believe. In each situation, they faced the impossible—wild nature, powerful demons, and even death itself. No one expected Jesus to show such authority. Yet every time, He called them to trust Him, not as a mere man, but as the One who holds God’s power. Faith, then, is trusting beyond what we see or expect, and looking forward to God’s power at work in our lives. πŸ‘‰ Read Luke 8:22 - 56 Q1. They were terrified when they met a storm on the lake. They woke Jesus up, and Jesus calmed the storm. What did Jesus say to them?  Answers πŸ‘‰ ANS: Where is your faith? They knew God sent Jesus. Thus, they were supposed to believe in God that God would protect Jesus. They had faith to follow Jesus, but not yet faith to trust Him in crisis. Their problem was not that they had no faith, but that their faith was small...

17: The nature of the ministry of the Word (Luke 8:1 – 21)

This chapter opens by identifying those who supported the ministry of the gospel. It then reveals the nature of that ministry by showing how different kinds of hearts respond to God’s word, and how those responses determine its fruitfulness. Finally, it teaches that receiving and obeying the word of God gives rise to a new community—a new family—namely, the family of God. πŸ‘‰ Read Luke 8:1 - 21 Q1. Who helped Jesus' ministry?  Answers πŸ‘‰ ANS: They were twelve disciples, women who were healed, and women who supported and followed Jesus' ministry.  A small Jesus' community started. Note that women participated in Jesus' ministry which was not usual in those days’ culture. Q2. Why did Jesus explain in parables? (v9-10) Answer πŸ‘‰ ANS: It was to enlighten the truth only through an encounter with Jesus. When the disciples did not realize it, the Lord explained the parables. Understanding the Bible is the same. Only with the enlightening of the Holy Spirit and...

16: Love matters more than piety (Luke 7:36 – 50)

In this episode, Jesus exposes the coldness of their hearts toward His gospel. Because they were preoccupied with their own righteousness, they had little experience of the grace of forgiveness. But the new wine—the gospel of Jesus—cannot be contained within mere religious observance. Loving Jesus matters more than keeping religious requirements. And recognizing the grace of forgiveness is the first step to truly knowing Him. πŸ‘‰ Read Luke 7:36 - 50 Q1. Why did the woman in vv. 36–50 love Jesus more than Simon did? Answers πŸ‘‰ Because she had been forgiven more sins. Her deep awareness of forgiveness produced greater love. Q2. According to Jesus’ conversation with Simon, what attitude keeps us from realizing Jesus’ love? (vv. 37–39) Answer πŸ‘‰ • A critical and condemning spirit toward others • A heart of self-righteousness These attitudes blind us to our own need for grace. Q3. According to vv. 16, 39, and 49, who is Jesus? Answers πŸ‘‰ • Greater than a proph...
