Tunic, Breastplate of Decision, Sash, Ephod, Robe

They hammered, made a thin sheet of gold, and cut it to make gold thread. This gold thread was woven with blue, purple, scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen to make the ephod.

The long passage describes how they made the ephod (2-7) and the breastpiece of decision (8-21).  Verses 3, 5, and 8 explicitly say that artistic skill was required.

1, 5, 7, 21, 26, 31

Whereas chapter 28 records that the Lord commanded Moses how to make, chapter 39 tells that it was made exactly as the Lord had commanded.

Two passages are almost verse-to-verse identical. In chapter 28, each section ends with its meaning. In chapter 39, each section ends with the statement, ‘as the Lord had commanded Moses.’

Because everything was made according to the Lord’s command, what He intended through the installment of the priesthood will be fulfilled, as described in chapter 28. The priest will represent people before the Lord. Their names will be remembered before the Lord. etc. For the meaning and intention of each part, see the blog post of chapter 28. -> Ex 28:1-29    &   Ex 28:30-43
