41: Marriage and resurrection & David’s son and Lord (Luke 20:27 – 47)
The religious leaders failed to recognize Jesus as the Christ for three reasons explained in Luke 20. They were blinded by their ignorance of Scripture (failing to understand that God is not the God of the dead but of the living), by their desire for their own authority and glory (going beyond challenging Jesus' authority to seeking His death-their challenge against God's authority over life, and loving to be honored by people-taking glory that belongs to God), and by the mysterious identity of Christ (being both David's Son and David's Lord).
